Dr. Karel Eloot is a Senior Partner at McKinsey & Company based in China. He is a global leader of the Metals & Mining Practice and a co-author of McKinsey’s Global Materials Perspective. With over 30 years of global experience, Karel specializes in transforming organizations in the industrial and materials sectors, leveraging Industry 4.0, advanced analytics, sustainability, and energy transition strategies. His expertise includes business development for metals and mining across all the major commodities, esp. steel, aluminum, copper, and battery materials.
Karel co-founded McKinsey’s Industrial IoT hub, as well as the Innovation & Learning Center with Tsinghua University, which trains leaders on digital enablement. Through these he supports companies to become leaders and lighthouses in technology enablement. A metallurgical engineer with a Ph.D. in Materials Science from the University of Gent, Belgium, he has held research roles across Europe, the U.S., and Japan. Karel is also a guest lecturer at leading universities.
