Managing Director, The German mining association
Since the 80s Dr Martin Wedig is engaged within international mining which started with his mining engineering studies at the technical University of Aachen. Besides his master degree he lateron also received his phd degree from University of Aachen. Furthermore he studied economics at the European School of Management and Technology in Cologne. His first international experience was made during a foreign job on site with heavy mineral sands mining of the company Iluka Resources in Australia.
His professional career lead him through the energy and mining company RAG. There, he took various positions within of a typical project career in Germany and Abroad. He was involved in the development of RAG’s international mining business and since the end of the 90s Dr Martin Wedig fulfilled various functions within the company holding. His prime tasks were investment planning and technical controlling of the international mining activities of RAG Coal International in North America, Venezuela and Australia. Besides he also was taking care of the trading and mining equipment activities of the company.
After divestment of RAGs mining business Dr Martin Wedig changed to the association side and since beginning of 2012 became managing director of the federation of international mining and mineral resources. Since June 2013 he became also managing director of the parent organization the German mining association. Due to this function he is largely engaged within a variety of national and international organizations and committees. Furthermore he is author of numerous professional articles and book contributions.
