Tom Palmer is only the 10th CEO in Newmont’s 103-year history. Tom’s journey with Newmont began in 2014 when he joined as Managing Director Indonesia. A year later, Indonesia was integrated with Newmont’s Australian and New Zealand businesses and Tom was appointed Managing Director Asia Pacific. In 2016, Tom moved to Denver when he was promoted to Chief Operating Officer before being appointed CEO and joining Newmont’s Board of Directors almost 5 years ago in October of 2019. Tom has successfully led Newmont through two of the industry’s most notable acquisitions: Goldcorp in 2019 and then Newcrest in November of last year. He is also recognized for his leadership role in establishing the Nevada Gold Mines Joint Venture in
2019 and remains on the Board of that JV. Prior to joining Newmont, Tom spent nearly 20 years at Rio Tinto, where he held leadership roles across most commodities, including iron ore, coal, aluminium, and copper. He earned a Master of Engineering Science degree and a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia
