Future Minerals Forum: The World’s Government-Led Minerals Platform

The Future Minerals Forum (FMF) is a government-led platform for shaping the future of minerals. Since its inauguration in 2022, FMF has grown to become the world’s leading minerals gathering, bringing together senior government officials, industry leaders, multilateral organizations, NGOs, academia, trade associations, and other stakeholders across the entire mineral value chain in an action-focused setting.

FMF is unique for its audacious approach – confronting industry challenges head-on through genuine dialogue that results into tangible outcomes, including resilient and responsible mineral supply chains. Collaboration at FMF is critical in enabling development, driving the global electrification goals, enhancing global security and accelerating the digital revolution.

Leveraging the Unique Position of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

FMF is a multistakeholder platform convened by Saudi Arabia, founded on the ethos of collaboration. FMF provides a voice for supplier nations and enables partnerships with customer countries to drive shared prosperity, foster sustainability, and build trust through responsible actions.

Led by its inclusive Ministerial Roundtable (MRT), FMF has become a global voice for the Super Region of Africa, West, and Central Asia, as well as other supplier regions around the world, focusing on three core objectives:

  • 01

Promote the Super Region (Africa, Western Asia, and Central Asia) as mineral hubs.

  • 02

Create a multistakeholder platform that addresses complex challenges and develops solutions for securing critical minerals essential for development and global electrification goals.

  • 03

Attract investment in developing mineral value chains across the Super Region and other supplier regions, including Latin America and Asia.

FMF Strategic Pillars

FMF is more than a conference and more than an exhibition. It is a cause driven from Saudi Arabia. A cause that brings the world together to deliver the minerals for creating a new era of global development, prosperity, and stability.

The cause is built on five strategic pillars:
Lead

Through the world’s largest Ministerial Roundtable on minerals, shaping the global agenda, identifying and implementing practical actions to create resilient and responsible mineral value chains

Engage

The conference and exhibition bring together governments, industry leaders, and other stakeholders to create a platform for collaboration unlike any other, through debates, leadership roundtables, knowledge exchanges, country and technology showcases, as well as conversations with a new generation of leaders.

Impact

Translating Ministerial Roundtable priorities into concrete actions that deliver positive impact at local, regional, and global levels.

Influence

Taking the Riyadh conversations internationally, promoting FMF initiatives in multilateral settings, including the United Nations, G20, and World Bank Group. FMF also seeks to influence by hosting mini-conferences, workshops, and side events in supplier and customer countries. Establishing multistakeholder international coordination groups to provide guidance on FMF initiatives and projects.

Inform

Developing FMF’s primary research capability to inform and influence international discussions on future minerals.

FMF Products at a Glance

Through the five pillars mentioned above, FMF-MRT has created four strategic products shaping the future of minerals:

Critical Minerals Framework An international critical minerals framework to promote global collaboration and maximize the creation of value in supplier countries, focusing on creating funding pathways for infrastructure in seven priority mineral corridors, initially in Africa and South America. This work is being done in partnership with the World Bank.
Sustainability and Transparency Developing a sustainability framework comprising four strategic pillars (development, capacity, collaboration, and performance), supported by 12 priorities for responsible supply that aim to provide a voice for supplier regions and reflect local realities. The framework will inform the implementation of a traceability pilot project in the African copper belt, to enhance supply chain transparency and responsibility, and be replicated in other regions.
Centers of Excellence Enabling capacity building in supplier region through the creation of a network of Centers of Excellence to promote development through access to funding for expanding exploration, enabling mining and infrastructure projects; drive innovation and broaden access to new technologies; develop skilled workers the regions currently lack; enable the spread of good sustainability practices; and develop enabling policy environments.
FMF Barometer FMF will publish a Barometer report in the fourth quarter of 2025 that will become a go-to source of information on mineral development for policymakers and industry leaders. The centerpiece of the Barometer is an index that tracks sector sentiment and progress against the delivery of the FMF Critical Minerals Framework, which initially covers mineral corridors across the Super Region and South America.

Minerals For A New Era Of Development

The Future Minerals Forum (FMF) is a dynamic, forward-thinking leadership platform with an ambitious, coherent strategic plan that has seen it brilliantly evolve into the world’s most attended gathering for minerals.

As the Forum prepares for its fifth and most ambitious edition under the central theme of “Dawn of a Global Cause,” it aims to spark collaboration by mobilizing all industry stakeholders on a scale commensurate with the task of creating a new era of development for mineral supplier countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, in partnership with countries and companies.
